Cholesterol Medicines
What are the risks associated with cholesterol
medication?
Despite the encouraging results of tests related to medicine
that lower the cholesterol levels, there is still doubt about
the safety. There are two types of medication for cholesterol:
herbal and manufactured. People use different methods to keep
their cholesterol levels check, some believe in the safest
traditional ways like dieting and exercise, while others use
modern alternatives like consuming pills.
Extracts from natural herbs such as Policosanol, Guggulipid
and green tea have some medicinal values which will help us to
keep our cholesterol level low. Even if they are good at
lowering cholesterol levels, are they safe to use? Fortunately
they are for many people and they're used them all over the
world. Most people assume that medicines do not cause
side-effects, but those supplements made in a laboratory have
serious side-effects.
Niacin, a common synthetic B vitamin, has been used very
successfully in combating high cholesterol. Be forewarned,
however, that when using it, side effects may occur.
Indigestion, nausea, diarrhea, liver inflammation, and an
increased effect on high blood pressure medication are among
the side-effects. Another side effect that occurs frequently
with a large dose of niacin; it leads to a wider opening of
blood vessels causing the skin to flush or a hot feeling.
Physicians worry about patients who accidentally mix the
dangerous combination of niacin and Statin, another medicine
which lowers cholesterol, together which could be fatal.
This can be especially dangerous when patients in an attempt to
lower their cholesterol quicker, combine and consume the two
medications not understanding that this is a potentially fatal
combination.
Cholesterol supplements have several other unpleasant side
effects, such as muscle cramps and pain. If these life
threatening side effects are observed, discontinue the
medication immediately if he values his life.
Most medications have side effects but work better when
supervised by a doctor or physician. The otherless risky
options to reduce cholesterol levels are diet and exercise.
