Low Cholesterol Meals

Will our cholesterol levels be healthy if we eat low cholesterol dinners?

"You are what you eat!" as said by Dr. Gillian McKeith has become known as the mantra for people who like food like us. But, we often find that in many instances it is only a well used quote used to fulfill our own food craving needs. Some claim that the best way to combat dangerous cholesterol levels is to eat low cholesterol meals which include large amounts of oats, barley, and soy, along with healthy servings of fruits and vegetables, but is this really the case?

Try substituting your daily coffee with one or two glasses of delicious, fresh orange juice. Your cholesterol levels can be reduced when the juice contains plant storels that can lower your cholesterol level.  Oranges not only have an enjoyable sweetness, they have great cholesterol lowering benefits. If you don't like orange juice, try cranberry, grape or grapefruit juice instead. To help reduce cholesterol in the body any citric fruit helps. However, if you like to drink coffee a lot, you can also try to use paper filters while brewing your coffee. The purpose of filters such as these is to remove cholesterol-producing materials from your coffee.

Also, you can use olive oil generously when cooking and as a salad dressing, as opposed to using regular cooking oil. One of the main causes for high cholesterol is the consumption of saturated fat, which is contained in small amounts in Olive oil.  In Spain, Italy people use olive oil not just to cook with, but also to replace butter on bread. Because of these lifestyles, Europe has the least amount of heart disease throughout the worldwide population.

Let's not forget seafood; fish like salmon, sardines, and mackerel contain high amounts of Omega 3 fatty acids which are excellent for your health. When we eat these fish every day, you take in your daily allowance of omega-3 fatty acids that can decrease your cholesterol level to a more healthful level.

The preceding examples show us the clear benefits we can gain from low cholesterol meals; however, it is not necessarily the case that we can acquire a healthy cholesterol level just from eating a healthy diet of low-cholesterol foods.  It is important to avoid smoking and alcohol consumption as well as have good diet and exercise. If you meet all of these conditions, you can reduce your level of cholesterol, but you're still not fully protected from the health consequences of high cholesterol.
